Sligo Park Hotel

Sligo Park Hotel set upon a project to reduce their daytime energy usage in the hotel.

Coolair were requested by Sligo Park Hotek to work with them to design and install the Roof mounted Solar Photovoltaic System on the existing flat roofs of the 3 x Bedroom Blocks.

Client Challenge

The main objectives for the PV system with its clean renewable generated electricity are:

  • Reduce reliance on daytime ESB supplied power throughout the year by circa 165,000kwhrs annually on the understanding that all PV generated kw hrs are consumed in the Hotel.
  • This gives an equivalent annual Co2 saving of circa 48,000.00 kgs (48.00Metric Tonnes) using 2023 Co2 multiplier for Ireland.
  • This is also an equivalent of over 1800 trees being planted annually.

Our Solution

Equipment used

  • Coolair selected Schweizer (formerly Hilti Solar) MSP FR EW High Quality fixing components for the existing on site flat roofs to give maximum yields per annum using available space.
  • The Schweizer system is non roof penetrating system and is an aluminium kit form with low weight and certified longevity.
  • Ballast materials are added to the frame to give overall additional weight to the roof of circa 30kgs per stq metre.

Specification

  • We used Amerisolar Solar Photovoltaic modules with a quantity of 400 x 580watt modules.
  • Amerisolar are a well-established manufacturer, and Coolair has had a long relationship with Amerisolar and have imported and installed nearly 14MW of Solar PV modules to date.
  • To complement the Amerisolar PV modules; we installed a SolarEdge 3-phase inverters on the roof adjacent to the PV system.
  • Solaredge are one of the world’s leading Solar PV inverters.
  • Coolair have had a relationship with SolarEdge for approximately 10 years.

Outcome

The completed PV installation provides clear operational and safety benefits, delivering reassurance for insurers and greater control for the site team.

The installation delivers enhanced fire safety through SolarEdge’s Safe DC technology, supporting compliance with the latest, more stringent requirements set by leading global insurers including Zurich, Allianz, AON and Global FM. In addition, the system provides full remote monitoring, giving Hotel Management clear visibility and control over PV performance at all times.
