Uniphar

Uniphar needed a new Block C Warehouse

Project was required as part of Uniphar’s Domestic & Global expansion plans.

Client Challenge

Scope of the project - 245,000 m³, 20 m H fully automated warehouse +15°C to +25°C along with 2 no. 500 pallet 15m H chilled bulk storage & pick fridges with ante chamber @ +5°C +/- 2°C

  • Key requirements or objectives needed were to maintain temperature homogeneity +20°C +/- 2°C throughout the full envelope of the building including 3 level mezzanine floor, goods inwards, van delivery area, special storage CD cage and +5°Cold chain.
  • Time, budget, or operational constraints – project delivered in 9 months from project award with a green field site & within budget.
  • Any technical, logistical, or regulatory challenges – plant rooms to house AHU’s and chillers were on 3 different levels of the building due to space restraints.
  • Cold room were required at 15m H therefore required structural steel exoskeleton also provided by CTS
  • Site-specific considerations were noise restraints requiring all plant to be low noise and to blend in with the external surroundings

Our Solution

CTS design provided + 20°C +/- 2°C to the automated open warehouse and 3 level mezz floors.

Cold Chain & HVAC Solution

  • The system incorporated a Sintra mix Ind design consisting of 1.4 kms of specialised Sintra Pulsars, 2 x 470 KW RHOSS Heat Pumps, 2 x RHOSS 470 KW chillers utilizing low GWP A2l refrigerant R454b & 4 x 70,000 m³/H RHOSS AHU’s.
  • Turnkey package was provided by CTS inclusive of LTHW , & CHW pipework, vessels, pumps and accessories along with full BMS control  package.
  • CTS successfully provided a full validation package inclusive of temperature mapping & Functions operation testing to meet HPRA requirements.
  • The cold chain systems comprises of N+1 duty assist features to both of the large +5°C bilk cold rooms & +5°C Ante chamber.
  • The system plant  compromises of low GWP refrigerant R513a multi scroll compressor packs and energy efficient evaporators with EC fan technology and multi section duty/standby control panels.

Specification

  • Sintra was specified to meet strict close temperature controlled environment throughout the entire warehouse from FFL to ceiling.
  • Based on CTS previous vast experience of temperature warehouse environments & in conjunction with Sintra design team the solution was formulated from extensive knowledge of temperature controlled environments & in specific with large scale automated fit outs.
  • With the use of Sintra control philosophy there was a clear 30% saving on energy consumption V’s traditional HVAC system.

Outcome

CTS have continued to service & maintain the site in Block C regularly since handover in March 2024. Regular service is provide by in house CTS engineers on a quarterly basis offering continuous support to the Uniphar utilities team on site.

The relationship with Uniphar has existed with CTS since it was founded in 2001 and the powerful business relationship continues to date as CTS provide  temperature solution support to Uniphar on a global stage, throughout Europe & the US.
